Implementing well-designed mini-games and puzzles can significantly affect how a game is perceived and whether or not the customer decides to purchase the game. This talk will cover issues such as how to design a good puzzle or mini-game, common pitfalls to avoid, prototyping, difficulty levels, types of hints, conveying rules, player feedback, and implications for casual game genres. The talk will focus on effective and practical ways designers and developers can improve mini-games and puzzles within budgetary and time constraints. Craig BRANNON (email) Craig has been involved in the game industry for over 17 years, having designed and produced more than 30 published games. As Vice President of Development at Legacy Interactive, he oversees multiple production teams and continues to be very much involved in all aspects of the game design and content creation in all of Legacy`s PC and console games. Craig has a proven track record in producing entertaining titles from well-known existing licenses (such as Law & Order, CSI: NY, The Lost Cases of Sherlock Holmes and Murder, She Wrote). He also has been instrumental in the creation of Legacys original intellectual property with such titles as Emergency Room, Pet Pals and Zoo Vet. Dr. Brannon earned his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
