Anino Games, founded in 2001, concentrates in third party development and its related services for PC, Mac, mobile, iOS, Facebook, Nintendo DS and Wii. It has won multi-international awards and reached the top 10 in the appstore and online portals such as Big Fish Games. As President and Founder, Niel Dagondon is a witness to the developing market.
While relatively new, the Philippine market has a wide gaming audience that welcomes any English language game. As an English-speaking country, games don’t have to be localized. “It makes it tougher to penetrate the local market as you are always up against the games dominating the US,” said Dagondon.
Even with the increased competition, new technology such as smartphones and tablets has further fired up the growth of the market.
The lower barriers to developing and releasing your own games have encouraged people in emerging economies such as ours to try their luck in game development.
Thus the market can expect success stories from this region, he says.
Future of Gaming
Technology has made the world shrink as more people are connected to more places. Dagondon believes all South East Asian countries will meld together into a single market. “There are still organizational and language issues to overcome, but we’ll get there,” said Dagondon.
Anino Games actively plays a part in the market’s growth and continues to inspire others to enter the industry. So much so, at present, with original free-to-play mobile games that will enter the APAC market.Interview with Niel Dagondon, Anino Games,
